x11/lxpanel

  • LXPanel is a lightweight X11 desktop panel based on fbpanel.
# cd /usr/ports/x11/lxpanel
# make install clean

FreeBSD 8.2 have problems with some Intel-based motherboards. Specifically vol chanel of mixer is ignored. In this case you can patch LXPanel to use pcm channel in volume control.

# cd /usr/ports/x11/lxpanel
# make extract
# cd work/lxpanel-0.5.6
# patch -i /where/you/saved/vol-to-pcm.patch
# cd ../..
# make build deinstall reinstall clean

x11/tint

  • Lightweight freedesktop-compliant panel/taskbar/systray/clock
# cd /usr/ports/x11/tint
# make install clean

x11/xxkb

  • An XKB keyboard layout switcher and indicator.
# cd /usr/ports/x11/xxkb
# make install clean

Create ~/.xxkbrc:

XXkb.mainwindow.type: tray
XXkb.mainwindow.geometry: 22x18+0+0
XXkb.mainwindow.label.enable: true
XXkb.mainwindow.label.text.1: En
XXkb.mainwindow.label.text.2: Uk
XXkb.mainwindow.label.background: #668BA9
XXkb.mainwindow.label.foreground: #ffffff
XXkb.mainwindow.label.font: -*-terminus-medium-r-normal-*-14-*-*-*-*-*-iso10646-1
XXkb.button.enable: no

VolWheel

  • VolWheel is a little icon that lives in your notification area which allows you to quickly change the sound volume.

The program is not in the ports yet. But I ported version 0.2.8 to FreeBSD. Download, extract and:

# cd /usr/ports/x11-toolkits/p5-Gtk2
# make install clean
# cd /usr/ports/x11-toolkits/p5-Gtk2-TrayIcon
# make install clean
# cd /usr/ports/audio/mixmos
# make install clean
# cd /where/you/saved/volwheel-0.2.8-freebsd
# ./install.pl

Create ~/.config/volwheel:

vol
mixmos
5
simple-blue
/usr/local/share/volwheel/icons/volwheel.png
0
FreeBSD
vol:pcm:rec:
