Install FreeBSD 10 on gmirror/gstripe/simple UFS partitions (GPT or MBR)

Option 2. Create mirrored/striped/simple UFS filesystems (GPT)

by ross at 12:34:29 on April 25, 2012

Create filesystems

# kldload geom_mirror
# kldload geom_stripe

Filesystems are formatted using newfs utility, -L is the label, filesystem will be available as /dev/ufs/label, and -U turns Soft Updates on.

Mirrored UFS partitions

# gmirror label root /dev/gpt/root0 /dev/gpt/root1
# newfs -L root /dev/mirror/root
# mount /dev/mirror/root /mnt

# gmirror label var /dev/gpt/var0 /dev/gpt/var1
# newfs -U -L var /dev/mirror/var
# mount /dev/mirror/var /mnt/var

# gmirror label usr /dev/gpt/usr0 /dev/gpt/usr1
# newfs -U -L usr /dev/mirror/usr
# mount /dev/mirror/usr /mnt/usr

# gmirror label home /dev/gpt/home0 /dev/gpt/home1
# newfs -U -L home /dev/mirror/home
# mount /dev/mirror/home /mnt/usr/home

Striped UFS partitions

# gstripe label ports /dev/gpt/ports0 /dev/gpt/ports1
# newfs -U -L ports /dev/stripe/ports
# mount /dev/stripe/ports /mnt/usr/ports

Simple UFS partitions

# newfs -U -L share /dev/gtp/share
# mkdir /share
# mount /dev/ufs/share /mnt/share

Type exit and installation will proceed.
