In order to setup a basic FreeBSD system you will need to alter at least these files:

You can find default configuration files in /usr/share/examples/etc. For example, there is no /etc/make.conf on newly installed system. You can get one by copying /usr/share/examples/etc/make.conf to /etc and editing it.
